Sharing experiences. Creating practical resources.

Navigating London’s private-hire industry shouldn’t feel like a guessing game.

Navigating London’s private-hire industry shouldn’t feel like a guessing game.

Hi, I’m Evans Ofori. I’m a Transport for London (TfL)-licensed private-hire driver, creator of EvansOfori.com and host of The Evans Ofori Show.

When I applied for my London PHV driver licence, I found information scattered across websites, social media and forums. Some advice was outdated, and other applicants’ experiences were often difficult to put into context. I read accounts of year-long delays, conflicting application costs and repeated topographical assessment failures. I wanted to know what was accurate, what applied to me and how to prepare.

I passed my TfL assessments on my first sitting and received my licence, but I remembered how uncertain the preparation had felt. My experience inspired me to share what I learned and create resources that could help other drivers find clearer answers.

I created EvansOfori.com to share first-hand experiences, useful conversations and practical resources for aspiring drivers, licensed drivers and operators across London.

My approach is simple: share what I’ve experienced, explain what I’ve learned and help you make your own well-informed decisions.

Getting licensed: the beginning of my journey

My own application involved preparing documents, meeting medical and DBS requirements, taking assessments and keeping track of communications with TfL. I kept receipts, test results and emails to understand the process and record what actually happened.

That experience taught me the value of checking official information rather than relying on a single forum post or someone else’s timeline. Every application can be different; my experience is one example, not a promise about how long yours will take.

And receiving my licence raised new questions: Which operators should I consider? What sort of work suits me? Should I rent or buy a vehicle? What will it actually cost to work?

Guidance for every stage of your journey

The three projects below came from questions I faced at different stages. Each has a different purpose, so you can go straight to what matters to you.

01 · PREPARE

PHVDriverAcademy — prepare for TfL assessments

Getting ready for SERU and the topographical skills assessment shouldn’t mean piecing together conflicting tips from forums. I created PHVDriverAcademy to focus on structured learning, preparation resources and clearer study pathways for aspiring drivers.

Its purpose is to help you understand what to prepare for and approach your assessments with more confidence—not to guarantee a pass.

02 · FIND OPTIONS

PHVMatch — explore work after licensing

Getting your licence is a milestone, but it doesn’t tell you which work arrangements, operators or opportunities are right for you. I created PHVMatch to help licensed drivers explore relevant London private-hire work and operator options.

The aim is to give drivers more information and connections as they make their next decision.

03 · COMPARE

Interactive tools — understand the numbers

After licensing, I needed to compare vehicle rental and ownership, ongoing operating costs and earnings scenarios. I began building calculators and planners for myself to make sense of those decisions.

When I found them useful, I decided to share them. They’re tools for exploring assumptions and options, not guarantees of profit or personalised financial advice.

The Evans Ofori Show

Real questions. Useful conversations. Practical next steps.

The Evans Ofori Show is where I discuss the questions that come up along the way—from licensing and running costs to chauffeur work, operators and changes affecting London private hire.

Through the Show and accompanying articles, I share experiences, ask questions and explore practical choices in more detail. The goal is to help you decide what to investigate next, rather than assume one approach works for everyone.
